☰ KNOWING THE LAND
In direct connection with the local ecosystems, we document, learn, and share the arts, ecology and local material culture.
Deeply understanding the provenance and utility of locally sourced materials helps us develop a productive, sustainable, and resilient culture. We invited local artisans, who possess invaluable knowledge, to teach us basic practices for recognizing and working with the most common materials: wood, wool, stone, and wicker. We set up a collaborative exhibition, organized several mediation activities, and launched a collection of technical books dedicated to local material culture. Now we turn our attention to the younger generation, with the commitment to pass this cultural legacy onto those who will shape the world of tomorrow. Here, training becomes more frequent, more consequential, and more profound. The books open up to families and their children, proposing outdoor educational activities. The 1st Edition of Knowing the Land was supported by DGArtes’ program "Art and Territorial Cohesion" and Cabeceiras de Basto Municipality.
