PRO-REGRESS

Maio-Junho 2022 - Junho 2023
Miranda do Douro, Portugal

Group show curated by Patrícia Geraldes

Landra spent a month in the village of Picote talking to residents and farmers, while analyzing the soils of small vegetable gardens, vineyards, stream edges, plowed and unplowed olive groves, oak groves and other types of land. They discovered that certain microorganisms were present (and missing) in each of these lands, and steps were taken to increase fertility and the complexity of life in each plot.

A performance-installation brought samples of these same lands to the space of the former primary school, with printed images and a narration of the micro and macro events that each land went through. Tracing the states of succession from a mineral and barely alive soil to the complex fungal network found in ancient forests, the ecological stages that the lands analyzed today occupy were glimpsed and what they could become was projected.

The project is expected to continue at the 2023 Spring Meetings to respond to local interest in regenerating land, with the construction of an artistic installation that produces high-quality compost with the remains of local domestic and agricultural activities.
